The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has petitioned Parliament to approve Shs1.5 billion to support the printing and free distribution of more than 200,000 copies of 52 Dimensions, a book celebrating the life, leadership and public service of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The request was unveiled during the official launch of the publication at Parliament, where Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth endorsed the book, becoming its first national endorser.
Published to mark Gen. Muhoozi’s 52nd birthday, 52 Dimensions chronicles his leadership journey and reflects on themes of patriotism, integrity, accountability, national service and the fight against corruption. PLU says the book is intended to inspire young Ugandans and promote values of responsible leadership.
Speaking at the launch, the book’s chief editor, Kenneth Asiimwe, said the inaugural edition is built around the theme “Resetting the Fact of Default,” which was inspired by Speaker Oboth-Oboth’s vision for Parliament.
He noted that the publication goes beyond telling Gen. Muhoozi’s personal story. It brings together feature stories, analytical articles and tribute messages from leaders in the security sector, Parliament, the judiciary, education, the media, the private sector, as well as cultural, religious and civil society institutions.
Asiimwe also disclosed that several parliamentary leaders contributed to the publication, including Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige, PLU Secretary General and Kween County MP Fadhil Chemaswet, alongside a number of other legislators.
If Parliament approves the funding request, the money will finance the printing, documentation and nationwide distribution of the books to schools, universities, public and community libraries, leadership academies and youth centres across Uganda.
PLU believes the free distribution will ensure that students, researchers and young people who may not be able to purchase the book still have access to its content. The organisation says the initiative is aimed at nurturing a culture of patriotism, leadership and civic responsibility among the country’s youth.
Alongside the free copies, a limited premium edition of 52 Dimensions will be sold at Shs100,000 per copy. According to the organisers, proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Uganda Childhood Cancer Foundation, supporting children battling cancer while contributing to the publication’s charitable mission.
