Two senior officials from Bulambuli District have been remanded to prison after appearing before the Anti-Corruption Court to answer charges related to the alleged misuse of public resources.
The officials, District Engineer Paul Walimbwa and District Health Officer Mulongo Muhamed Richard, are facing accusations of abuse of office, causing financial loss, and neglect of duty.
According to the prosecution, Walimbwa is alleged to have irregularly approved excess supplies for the construction of the district administration block, a decision investigators say led to a government loss of more than UGX 20 million.
Mulongo, on the other hand, is accused of authorising payment for works at Muyembe Health Centre IV that were allegedly below the required standards, despite concerns over the quality of the project.
The two officials were arraigned following investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
After hearing the matter, the Anti-Corruption Court ordered that both officials be remanded to prison until August 3, 2026, when they are expected to return to court for further proceedings.
The case is another reminder of the government’s ongoing campaign to strengthen accountability in public offices and ensure that taxpayer money is used for its intended purpose. However, as the legal process continues, the allegations remain before the court, and both officials are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
