The End of an Era: Zambali Bulasio Mukasa’s NBS TV Career Cut Off

By TV10 Gano Mazima

The Naguru-based NBS TV officially parted ways with its ace anchor, Zambali Bulasio Mukasa, on Friday.

In a departure from the usual fanfare afforded to valued staff members at the station, Zambali reportedly received a surprise farewell, with a social media message simply stating, “NEXT MEDIA: Farewell Zambali Bulasio Mukasa.

Your contributions to Next Media have been tremendous. It was a pleasure working with you.

In a stark contrast to the usual fanfare, Zambali’s departure from the station was marked with a simple social media post, unlike the elaborate exit of co-founder Joe Kigozi.

Zambali, the indefatigable news anchor and host of the ‘Barometer’ show, was surprisingly forced to resign, with many at the station perceiving it as a self-inflicted departure.

Zambali Bulasio Mukasa, a prominent Ugandan news anchor and host of the ‘Barometer’ show, was suspended from NBS TV after publicly declaring his affiliation with the National Unity Platform (NUP) and supporting its principal, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine. He expressed his support at an NUP rally in Kawempe, stating, “In times like these, I cannot remain neutral”.

This move was seen as a violation of NBS TV’s editorial policies, which emphasize non-partisanship. The station’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Desire Derekford Mugumisa, explained that employees pursuing political office must step away from active roles.

Mukasa’s suspension has sparked discussions about media personalities engaging in politics. His future at NBS TV remains uncertain, but he’s reportedly focused on his political aspirations, including a potential bid for the Nansana Municipality MP seat under the NUP banner

Zambali Bulasio Mukasa, a prominent Ugandan news anchor and host of the ‘Barometer’ show, has been making headlines after his sudden departure from NBS TV.

Here’s what’s been happening:

The Exit: Zambali was reportedly “sacked” from NBS TV after publicly declaring his affiliation with the National Unity Platform (NUP) and supporting its principal, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.

Political Aspirations: Zambali has expressed interest in contesting for the Nansana Municipality MP seat in the 2026 general elections under the NUP banner. His decision to join politics has sparked debate, given his strong media influence.

Company Response: Next Media, the parent company of NBS TV, cited editorial policies as the reason for Zambali’s exit, emphasizing non-partisanship. CEO Kin Karisa reportedly distanced himself from Zambali after his NUP involvement.

Career Background: Zambali has had a distinguished media career, working as a news anchor and presenter at various stations, including CBS FM and NBS TV. He’s also an event MC, motivational speaker, and artist.

What’s Next: Zambali’s political journey is just beginning, with challenges ahead, including winning the NUP primaries and convincing voters of his leadership capabilities.

It’s unclear if Zambali will return to his media role, but his political ambitions are now in the spotlight. Will his media background help him succeed in politics? Only time will tell.
