As the number of Ugandan citizens fleeing the country for jobs in other countries continue to increase, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni believes that jobs are abundant here in Uganda and people only lack vision to exploit the chances.
Museveni says the problem of Uganda now is not lack of jobs but attitude. He recalled that in the 1996 election campaign manifesto when Uganda had stabilized, he advised Ugandans on what to do to get out of poverty on a 4 acre model.
Museveni who was presiding over celebrations for the International Labour day in Fort Portal, pointed out that It’s countries which don’t have jobs are countries which are poor and Uganda is not poor adding that all the children that are going to work for the Arabs shouldn’t be going there because the jobs are here and the problem here is lack of vision.
‘l have been polite because I didn’t want to embarrass people but in the coming days, I will stop being polite’, he told the gathering.
He said jobs come from wealth creation noting that commercial agriculture, industries [big or small], services [hotels, transport, professional services, shops /ICT [business process outsourcing-BPOS], are four sectors for wealth and jobs creation, which he said his NRM party has been preaching to Uganda since 1995.
The president also forested employees who are opting for casual labour over permanent employment. ‘I firmly believe that labour should be permanent and I intend to advocate for that’ said president Museveni.
The state minister for labour, employment and industries relations, Esther Anyakua, said that numerous achievement in the public and private sectors are all because of workers who toil and work with dedication.
