PM Nabbanja Meets NEC Leadership Ahead of Karamoja Food Relief Distribution

Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja today met with the leadership of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) and other government officials ahead of the official flag-off of emergency food relief to the Karamoja Sub-region, where thousands of families continue to grapple with food insecurity.

The meeting served as a final coordination session to ensure that the relief operation is carried out efficiently and that the food reaches the communities that need it most. NEC, the supplier of the relief food, briefed the Prime Minister on the logistics and preparedness for the distribution exercise.

The government is dispatching 200,000 kilograms of maize flour and 100,000 kilograms of beans to affected districts across Karamoja. The food will be distributed to vulnerable households as part of ongoing efforts to cushion families from the effects of prolonged food shortages.

Speaking ahead of the flag-off, Prime Minister Nabbanja reaffirmed the government’s commitment to standing with the people of Karamoja during this difficult period. She emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and timely delivery of the relief supplies, urging all agencies involved to ensure that every intended beneficiary receives the assistance.

The intervention underscores the government’s continued efforts to respond to humanitarian needs in Karamoja, where recurring drought, climate challenges, and other socio-economic factors have left many households struggling to access adequate food.

With the relief supplies now ready for dispatch, communities across the sub-region are expected to begin receiving the food in the coming days, offering much-needed support to thousands of vulnerable families.
