The NRM Electoral Commission has directed party members across the country to attend village barazas on July 10 as part of preparations for the upcoming LC I and Women Council elections.
Speaking in Kampala, Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi said the meetings, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. in all villages, will focus on confirming that the party’s previously selected flag bearers are still willing and able to contest.
He explained that if a candidate has withdrawn, died, or is otherwise unavailable, village members will immediately agree on a replacement. Where consensus cannot be reached, a vote will be held.
The verification exercise will pave the way for endorsement of the candidates by the NRM Secretary General’s office before nominations by the Independent Electoral Commission later in July.
Dr. Odoi encouraged all party members to take part in the meetings, saying they are vital to ensuring the NRM fields verified candidates in every village ahead of the grassroots elections. He also said the Commission has completed preparations, with election officials deployed across the country to oversee the exercise.
