Voice of Awareness, Today Marks 28 Years Since His Death

Dr. Livingstone Kasozi one of the founders of Lukwata Guitar Singers from Matiya Luyima’s Kadongokamu Super Singers, the renowned Kadongo Kamu singer, indeed passed away in 1997 due to complications from HIV/AIDS. His death was a significant loss to the Ugandan music industry, particularly in the Kadongo Kamu genre. Kasozi was known for his thought-provoking songs like “Dunia Weraba” “Mpanga” and “Abafumbo Twefubirire”, which showcased his talent and contributed to his popularity. His strength in the music industry was so much in stage performance and not so many artists can equal Livingstone Kasozi.

He died on May 19, 1997, and prior to his death a day before, he may a last will which gave his house in Kyabbogo Bukomansimbi district, by then Masaka to the mother of his kids. Kasozi’s courage in publicly declaring his HIV-positive status in 1996, a time when stigma around the disease was high, earned him admiration and respect.
