KCCA Secures Temporary Dumpsite at Nkumba, Paves Way for Circular Economy Transition

In a significant development, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has finalized a formal agreement with the leadership of Katabi Town Council to utilize their dumpsite at Nkumba on a temporary basis. This arrangement marks a crucial step towards addressing the city’s waste management challenges as KCCA works towards implementing medium and long-term strategies for a circular economy.

The decision follows a feasibility study conducted by a team of engineers and technical personnel, which deemed the previously proposed temporary site at Menvu, Busukuma Subcounty, Nansana Municipality unsuitable due to its swampy and soggy terrain, among other limitations.

KCCA has expressed gratitude to the Chairman of Katabi Town Council, Kalema Ronald, the leadership of Entebbe Municipality, and the local community for their cooperation and hospitality. The agreement is seen as a testament to the spirit of Ubuntu and collaboration between local governments and stakeholders.

The temporary dumpsite at Nkumba will provide a vital solution for waste management in the short term, while KCCA continues to develop and implement sustainable waste management practices aligned with the principles of a circular economy. This transition aims to minimize waste, promote recycling, and ensure environmentally responsible practices.

The partnership between KCCA and Katabi Town Council demonstrates a commitment to finding solutions to urban challenges through collaboration and mutual support.
