Many people in public service are slowly by slowly shifting from their official work to their hand work and earn money since most of the people have found these small business from their hands beneficial than there official work.
This issue is mostly affecting schools as most of the teachers are benefiting from their small side business of which are earning them than their salaries.
This all resulted from Covid19 Lockdown that was set up in April 1st, 2020 where wide lockdown banned all forms of public and private transportation and closed all business except food markets, Essential super markets, food stores, handwork and pharmacies starting in march 2020, All Educational institutions in Uganda Closed.This became an eye opener to most of the people and proved to themselves that they can do something else and earn.
The big challenge in Uganda today is that most of the schools lack professional teachers with the required experience to handle different subject and this is not because the professionals are no where but because they are in other department that they find profitable.
Uganda reacquires almost 107880 additional teachers to address the staffing shortages and achieve the desired teacher pupil ratio.
The Government directly employs 266,290 teachers and of these 18,4275 are in primary schools; 67,168 in secondary schools and 13,870 in tertiary institutions. 750 tutors in primary teachers collages and more 227 in national teachers collages.
Most of them have shifted to their own businesses, basket weaving, break making, charcoal burning and other activities.
In an exclusive interview with Mr Atukunda Absolom a teacher at Rwampara Progressive School Rwampara district TV 10 learned that who earns Uganda shillings 300,000 as his monthly salary said that his source of income is not only based at that but he also owns a certain business.
Mr Absolom narrated how the story of his side business started in Covid 19 period where he decided to work and use his hand by getting involved in brick laying.Mr Ablosom said that after testing how profitable the business was, he kept on doing this and found it earning him than his salary.
According to him he did this not because he did not have what to do but to show most of the youth that everything is possible as long as you concentrate and sacrifice you time on it you have to achieve your goals.
“The youth should also start up their own business that may earn them some mount for their survival than moving on the streets,”he said.
Our Uganda today needs some people to be job creators not job seekers.
