Uganda has had many governments since 1962 when we got our independence. From 1962 – 1966, the President of Uganda was Sir. Edward Muteesa II. This government was a result of a coalition made between the Kabaka Yeka (KY) political party and Uganda People’s Congress headed by Milliton Obote. This alliance won the first election that was organised after independence. This government later collapsed in 1966.
From 1966 – 1971 it was Obote’s government where he even abolished the Kingdoms and he even banned the then constitution and launched a new constitution of Uganda that made him President. He was over thrown by Iddi Amin Dada in 1971.

After the election of 1980 where Museveni had participated under his party Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM), he contested the results of the election with support from Yusuf Lule a former President of the Provisional Government, and they started the bush war under the National Resistance Army, which later over threw the Military Council government that was headed by Tito Okello on January – 26 – 1986. Museveni was later sworn in as the President Of Uganda on 29th – January – 1986.
