Beginning in 1837, Queen Victoria was the reigning monarch of Great Britain, India, and Ireland. Her death on January 22nd, 1901, Tuesday at 6.30 pm marked the end of the 63-year and 216 days period that bore her name and shocked both the British Empire and many other nations, Britain’s Queen Victoria died at the age of 81.
She died at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, surrounded by her family. This included Germany’s Kaiser Wilhelm II and the future King, Edward VII.
Her death brought to a close an era in which many of her subjects had never known another ruler.
Her reign of 63 years is taught to be the longest rule in British history until 
Queen Elizabeth II.
The cause of her death was a stroke-like condition known as a brain haemorrhage. But the Queen had been deteriorating for a number of years prior to her passing.
She was a wheelchair user because of her rheumatism, and cataracts which had impaired her vision.
